About the Embassy

Soon it will be 100 years since diplomatic relations were established between Norway and Japan. On 7 November 1905, the Japanese Government of Emperor Meiji decided to establish diplomatic relations with Norway, and to accept Norway’s envoy to Tokyo. The ties between Norway and Japan are strong and dynamic. The two nations enjoy a long-standing and close relationship in the political, economic and cultural fields.The Embassy of Japan in Norway was opened in 1958, and our main function is to promote Japanese interests in Norway and to further develop Japanese-Norwegian relations.

The Embassy works in close contact with public and private institutions as well as organisations and individuals both in Norway and Japan.
